The Ritter Butzke is one of the most famous and authentic clubs in Berlin nightlife, together with Wilde Renate and Sisyphos. It is much loved by Berliners and the music is of various genres depending on the evening. Obviously they play techno, but it’s much more melodic and happy than the hardcore or acid of other clubs. It is a type of music that anyone can dance to, even if they don’t like this type of music.
There are four rooms, the furnishings are retro and a bit “spartan”: one room is just like a bunker, the internal garden (which is open in summer) which also has seating and a room with a mezzanine floor with many sofas. The atmosphere is very relaxed, almost magical thanks to the lights and disco balls and plants hanging from the ceiling.
It’s usually not very crowded (depends on the evening), the queue outside doesn’t last long and to avoid being bounced a simple black outfit is enough, they aren’t very hard on selection.
The Ritter Butzke is also a record company, it is easy to come to the club almost by chance and listen to the concert of some emerging artist for little money (entry costs around €15).
For those who know the Berlin clubbing legend Komet Bernhard or the Techno Opa (techno grandfather), the Ritter is ideal, in fact in an interview he declared it his favorite place! He goes there often and he even celebrated his birthday here.
